The legend

Casa Grika

«Casa Grika» is the house of the Grecìa Salentina. Zollino is one of the nine villages where Griko — the Greek language of this land — has never stopped being spoken, and the name of the suite simply says where you are: inside that language, and inside the house that kept it.

Because a language does not survive in books: it survives around a table, in the evening, when someone goes on speaking it to someone else. That is how Griko crossed the centuries in these villages — not as a relic to be preserved, but as something said quietly between people who know each other. The house was its keeping place, and the walls learned it before the grammars did.

The choice of the name celebrates this: not a song or a sprite, but the place where the songs and the sprites were kept. The coffered ceiling, the round walnut table, the cement tiles with their small red flowers — a room that, before being a suite, is simply a house.
