The legend

Kali Nifta

From the Griko "Buona Notte", it is the title of the most famous song of the Grika tradition. It is a love elegy steeped in lyricism that serves as the unofficial anthem of the Grecìa Salentina.

Kali Nifta is a nocturnal oration where Griko becomes the royal garment of a feeling that defies the end of the day. The lover wanders in the silence greeting the shadow of the beloved woman, with the Aima — the blood — boiling with archaic passion. The poet confides in the moon, the Feggari, transforming the obsession of Panta se sèna pensèo — always of you I think — into a liturgy that consecrates the Maliuddìa as a supreme form of beauty.

Conceived as a wish for rest, the suite reveals the soul of a song that is pure Eastern lyricism set in the silence of the olive trees.
